DESIGN LANGUAGE PROJECT (MODULAR HOME / FURNITURE / PRODUCT(2005)
The premise of this project was to create a modular or pre-fab home, piece of furniture and product that would all fit within the
same context and design language...this could be done many different ways so I decided to let the materials guide me. After
finding a foam concrete that seemed under-utilized in modern architecture, I began to experiment with the idea of permanence
vs. mobility. The modular home therefore has large concrete sections that slid back and forth to create a different experience
of space as well as controlling the interior light. The furniture consisted of a concrete base with lightweight and removable
seating surfaces, and the product was a piece of luggage which was able to become something more useful and permanent
beyond its typical role.
